At Virtual Med, our commitment to psychiatric care and mental health care is grounded in a deep-seated passion for functional medicine and trauma-informed care. We understand the complex interplay between biological, psychological, and social factors is vital for true healing and building resilience. Through our comprehensive psychiatric services available via telehealth, we aim to provide personalized care that addresses your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.
Our holistic approach to mental health care encompasses a variety of treatments, including natural supplements, medications, lifestyle adjustments, and talk therapy. We specialize in managing mood disorders such as Anxiety, Depression, Trauma/PTSD, Substance Use, Insomnia, OCD, Stress Management, Grief, and ADHD, tailoring our approach to each individual's unique needs.
Our dedication to trauma-informed psychiatric care stems from an understanding that many individuals struggling with mental health issues have experienced significant trauma. We strive to offer a safe and nurturing environment that recognizes the profound impact of past trauma on current mental health and supports each individual on their path to recovery. Our approach integrates talk therapy and other therapeutic modalities to empower our clients, helping them move towards healing and resilience.
While telehealth has proven to be effective for a wide range of mental health care, there are certain situations where in-person care might be more appropriate due to complexity, severity, or specific treatment needs. For this reason we do not provide psychiatric services for psychotic disorders, severe developmental disorders, those with complex or unstable medical conditions, or acute substance withdrawal requiring medical monitoring. Appropriateness of telehealth services is at the discretion of our providers. Referrals for local in person clinics will be provided if telehealth services are deemed inappropriate.

Our goal is to enhance the well-being of our patients while minimizing potential risks. For this reason we prioritize psychiatric services with the use of non-addictive medications, lifestyle changes, and developing coping skills for first line treatment. By strictly adhering to evidence-based guidelines and maintaining open communication, we ensure that the use of controlled substances in our telehealth clinic is responsible, well-informed, and aligned with the best interests of our patients' long-term health. If a decision is made to incorporate controlled substances into a patient's treatment, we prioritize short-term use and closely monitor their progress through regular virtual check-ins.
Controlled substances will not be refilled early and cannot be refilled if the patient is not reasonably compliant with appointments. Any aggressive or inappropriate behavior, non-compliance with appointments, or staff harassment in or around the prescribing of controlled substances will result in one-time, rapid taper of the medication and immediate discharge.
Benzodiazepines
We adhere to a stringent approach regarding the utilization of benzodiazepines. We recognize the potential benefits these medications can offer with short term use in managing certain medical conditions, such as panic. However, we are committed to ensuring the highest standards of patient safety and responsible prescribing practices.
Benzodiazepines, while effective, carry a risk of dependency and adverse effects when not used judiciously. Our clinicians are dedicated to conducting thorough assessments of each patient's medical history, current condition, and unique needs before considering the use of benzodiazepines as part of their treatment plan. The FDA and evidence based research do not support the long term or high dose use of Benzodiazepines.
Stimulants
Our treatment approach is firmly grounded in evidence-based practices that prioritize the holistic well-being of our patients. We understand that addressing mood symptoms is a crucial foundation before considering the potential use of stimulants for ADHD. Our qualified medical professionals conduct thorough assessments to accurately diagnose and understand each patient's unique needs. Stimulant medications in this clinic are prescribed stringently. It's important to note that we do not prescribe immediate-release (IR) stimulants. When deemed appropriate for treatment our focus is on extended-release formulations, chosen for their ability to provide consistent therapeutic effects while minimizing the risk of misuse. By adhering to these principles, we are dedicated to delivering comprehensive care that places the safety and health of our patients at the forefront of our practice.
